Performance Assessment for Normally Closed-loop Type Distribution Power Systems

The goal of this paper is to propose a performance assessment for normally closed-loop type distribution power systems. Pilot relaying systems have been successfully applied to the protection scheme for normally closed-loop distribution systems in the Taiwan Power Company (Taipower). This paper demonstrates that the proposed protection scheme is extremely well designed, such that both the number and the duration of interruptions caused by the faults can be minimized. The most significant advantage of this system is that the service is not interrupted when a fault occurs on the primary feeder. Finally, the reliability analyses of the primary distribution systems obtained using a generalized analytical approach are also considered.
